Position Details:

The Dance Brand Director role is key to Varsity Spirit’s Dance camp and competition success and must be a motivated and dynamic individual with a growth mindset and strong critical thinking skills.

The Dance Director must be passionate about elevating the student experience by delivering world class curriculum for all dance brand camps, competitions and clinics throughout the year and will represent Varsity Brands by demonstration of company core values in driving the highest ethical standards of conduct in all business activities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and oversight of the Varsity Spirit Dance strategy (UDA, NDA, USA, UCE)

  • Must have UDA knowledge and expertise to oversee UDA brand and UDA’s National Championship

  • Must promote growth mindset by developing and implementing programs and initiatives that foster a growth mindset culture within the dance group.

  • Develop solutions and strategies to address challenges and implement new growth opportunities

  • Collaborates with brand managers and regional leadership to ensure the brands are upheld and execution of operations are aligned with broader dance goals.

  • Ability to coach and lead a team to achieve strategic business goals.

  • Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to the dance team.

  • Meet regularly with the team to ensure successful management, motivation, and retention of the team.

  • Lead Hiring and Onboarding of team in accordance with required compliance.

  • Management of team’s performance to consistently encourage retention, growth and productivity including annual performance evaluations of team members.

  • Lead collaboration with Spirit Program (Cheer, dance, and band) Initiatives

  • Camps and Competitions collaboration

  • National School Spirit Championship and NDTC.

  • Attend and help drive success of school dance national championships

  • Collaboration with Varsity All Star Dance team and initiatives.

  • Must have creative problem-solving skills and the ability to produce innovative ideas/initiatives

  • Support product development/improvement and launches of new programs

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to produce effective campaigns

  • Responsible for training and overall management of Dance Staffing Directors, Curriculum, Operations and Scoring.

  • Oversee strategy of camp staff recruitment & selection, scheduling, training & development, engagement, and retention to maintain world class instructional staff

  • Responsible for the overall effectiveness of Camp curriculum

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to think strategically, creatively and have a problem-solving mindset

  • Ability to manage change and successfully lead others through

  • Dance team and industry knowledge

  • Strong familiarity with productivity tools such as Microsoft Office Suites.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Strong problem-solving skills to handle unexpected customer issues effectively.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and customers.

Supervisory Responsibility

Dance Staffing Directors, Curriculum, Operations, and scoring.

Physical Demands and/or Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While not participating in an event this job operates in a professional office environment. Largely a sedentary role with some filing requiring the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing on a stool, as necessary. The ability to sit or stand for long periods through meetings and while operating office equipment, PC’s, laptop, telephone will be required.

During events, the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time (5 hours plus) is required. The ability to communicate with customers and colleagues using the following but not limited to radio, walkie talkie, text message and email is required. The ability to lift, bend, push, pull and manipulate equipment that is a minimum of 30 lbs. is required.

Travel

Event travel and attendance at staff meetings & training is required. Event travel will include overnight stays for events.

Education, Certification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in direct management of individuals
