The Associate Epidemiologist-Data Wrangler is responsible for collecting and analyzing significant amounts of data that can be used to discover better treatments and cures for catastrophic childhood illnesses. The Department of Epidemiology and Cancer Control has an additional interest in the study of long-term effects of such illnesses and their treatment.

This position is located in Memphis, TN and offers a hybrid work schedule.

Research that changes the course of childhood cancer survivorship starts here, in the Department of Epidemiology and Cancer Control. With two decades of experience leading multi-disciplinary research in epidemiology, outcomes and interventions, our researchers and staff study and support patients today to improve lives over the long term. We are growing our team and adding this new position.

This position will serve as a member of our Data Wrangling team alongside four existing data specialists. We are looking for a focused, detailed driven individual to coordinate diverse data sets in support of our survivorship research teams. Our preferred candidate can independently integrate, assemble, manipulate, summarize, and disseminate data from numerous disparate systems. In addition, this individual is comfortable communicating with clinicians, epidemiologists, behavioral scientists, statisticians, and other interested staff concerning various study data points. The best candidate for this position will be an inquisitive thinker and resourceful problem-solver who is very comfortable using a programming language daily. While SAS is preferred, we are open to candidates proficient in SQL, Python, or other comparable languages.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide knowledge in statistical and/or epidemiological analysis to institutional researchers conducting basic, translational, clinical and/or population science studies as designated by collaboration areas.

  • Perform data QA/QC, data management, programming for data preparation, and statistical and/or epidemiological analyses using standard statistical packages.

  • Work under general guidance of a supervising faculty or designee.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.

  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology or related field required.

    • Master's degree preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of related experience required.

    • Experience Exception: Master's degree with no years of experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Preferred proficiency using a programming language daily.

    • SAS proficiency is highly preferred. As an alternative, experience with SQL, Python, or other comparable programming languages is also preferred.

  • Preferred experience working with data in population sciences, public health, or related fields.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Associate Epidemiologist-Data Wrangler, Survivorship.
