The Manager, Pharmacy Investigational Drug Services (IDS) is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and management of all investigational drug service activities within the organization. This role provides leadership to a team of Clinical Pharmacy Specialists and Pharmacy Technicians dedicated to IDS operations, supporting a robust portfolio of more than 100 active clinical trials.
The Manager works in close collaboration with the Clinical Trials Office, principal investigators, and interdisciplinary clinical teams across the institution to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient management of investigational medications. This position also serves as a key liaison with study sponsors, contract research organizations (CROs), and regulatory agencies, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations, protocols, and best practices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision of clinical pharmacy specialists assigned to pharmacy specialty area, including direction and coordination of daily workflow.
  • Lead planning and provision of clinical pharmacy specialty services and coordination of consultative services for inpatients and outpatients as part of the health care team.
  • Oversee systems and processes for timely and accurate documentation of electronic records and reports.
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory and good professional practice standards related to secure and appropriate storage of all pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Serve as the primary interface between own pharmacy specialist team, internal stakeholders (e.g., clinical staff, pharmacists), and external stakeholders (e.g., vendors) to coordinate efficient development, planning, and implementation of necessary services.
  • Provide inputs and direction for programmatic and fiscal planning.
  • Monitor and identify bottlenecks/ changing demands within area to identify corrective actions.
  • Lead definition of SOPs and policies for pharmacy area in line with emerging industry practices and monitor compliance.
  • Lead projects/processes end to end including resource planning and management, and communication and collaboration with internal cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Mentor and guide team members and ensure they have all the resources required, to complete their assigned tasks.
  • Engage in hiring, performance management, and other people processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Managers evaluate employee performance throughout the year—specifically through the spring and fall Check In milestones and the Annual Performance Review. All employees are encouraged to actively participate in these performance management processes.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
  • Pharm.D. accredited by the American Council of Pharmacy Education.
  • Certification by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties in a relevant area (e.g., Pharmacotherapy, Oncology, Nutrition Support). SOCRA certification is acceptable must be obtained within 1 year of hire.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: Pharm.D. accredited by the American Council of Pharmacy Education with PGY2 residency or 8+ years of pharmacy practice experience at St. Jude or a comparable institution; completion of a clinical pharmacy residency or fellowship in Pediatrics, Oncology, or Infectious Diseases Pharmacy can be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Pediatric and/or oncology experience preferred.
  • Experience managing at least 1-2 people preferred.
  • Proven experience in earlier role/comparable role.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • (LC: PHARM-TN) Licensure by the Tennessee State Board of Pharmacy.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $125,840 - $238,160 per year for the role of Mgr-Clinical Research Pharmacy Services.
