The Department of Oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is seeking an experienced Joint Lab Operations Manager to help establish and oversee laboratory operations. This position is ideal for someone highly organized, proactive, and experienced in managing the practical and logistical demands of a fast-paced biomedical research environment.
The Lab Manager will play a central role in building efficient laboratory infrastructure and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. We are looking for someone with substantial experience in laboratory operations, including purchasing supplies, coordinating with vendors, equipment setup and maintenance, repair follow-up, obtaining quotes for instruments and services, overseeing inventory, and developing standard operating procedures. This person will help create the operational backbone needed to support two productive, growing research programs.

Job Responsibilities:
Overseeing day-to-day laboratory operations ments, and train and/or supervise staff.
Managing the purchasing of supplies, reagents, and equipment.
Monitor budget activities and participate in the annual budget process.
Assist with maintenance and repair of equipment and space design/ construction.
Coordinating with vendors to obtain quotes, compare options, and track orders
Handling equipment installation, service requests, maintenance schedules, and repairs
Establishing and maintaining laboratory inventory system
Developing, organizing, and updating SOPs for laboratory workflows and shared procedures
Assisting with lab setup, space organization, and operational planning during the growth of the lab
Coordinating with institutional offices and shared resources to support lab functions
Helping ensure compliance with institutional policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
Supporting the onboarding of new lab members and helping build efficient operational practices
Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific area is required.
Minimum Experience:
8+ years of research experience is required
6+ years of research experience is required with a Master’s degree
3+ years of research experience is required with a PHD
Preferred Qualifications:
Significant prior experience in laboratory management or research operations in an academic, hospital, or biotechnology setting
Experience in lab and scientific project coordination, maintenance, and other research support activities preferred
Demonstrated understanding of the field and related trends
Demonstrated experience with purchasing, budgeting support, and vendor communication
Experience coordinating equipment maintenance and repair
Ability to create systems, workflows, and SOPs that improve laboratory efficiency
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities at once
Experience in biomedical research environments, especially in cancer biology, molecular biology, cell biology, or related fields, would be valuable.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
