Senior Room Service Technician (Part-time)
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Schedule: Saturday & Sunday, 1 pm – 9:30 pm, and either Friday or Monday, 5 pm – 9:30 pm
Job Responsibilities:
- Customer Service: Demonstrates a friendly, caring attitude when taking menu selections or requests. Ensures customer satisfaction is the outcome of all interactions. Utilizes appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication skills in all patient/customer interactions. Utilizes service recovery techniques. Assists in conducting short daily line-up meetings as directed by the supervisor.
- Food, Beverage, and Supplies: Prepares, assembles, and delivers patient trays according to standards of preparation. Prepares patient snack bags. Prepares, assembles, and delivers meals to on-campus housing according to standards of preparation. Stock nurses' stations with patient menus. Stock the room service area, inpatient, and outpatient nourishment rooms to meet established par levels. Requisitions supplies from the storeroom and other areas according to guidelines. Stock office supplies.
- Patient Services: Responsible for taking room service menu selections based on the prescribed diet order. Processes diet orders, nourishments, and updates patient nutrition information in Computrition. Communicates any diet updates and/or changes with appropriate staff. Ensures patient and family foodservice needs are being met. Assists with menu planning for patients. Maintains patient rights and confidentiality.
- Quality Improvement: Assists with collecting and compiling data related to patient satisfaction. Attends meetings outside of the department pertaining to patient room service. Enters room service monthly data into computer systems and compiles reports. Provides leadership guidance in the absence of the supervisor. Provides basic room service education to families and patients.
- Sanitation and Safety: Follows department sanitation and food safety policies and procedures when preparing patient/parent food/beverage items to meet regulatory compliance standards and prevent foodborne illness. Maintains a clean work environment. Follows Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines when handling food. Records and maintains appropriate temperature logs.
- Additional Responsibilities: Operates St. Jude motor vehicle (golf cart) to deliver patient food and supplies across campus to patient housing area. Guides room service staff in the absence of supervisory staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required
- Nutrition degree preferred
Minimum Experience:
- Two (2) years of food service experience required. Direct hospital experience preferred
- Understanding of nutrition services, common modified diets, and portion measures in health care nutrition services preferred
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:
- (LC: SERVSAFE) ServSafe Food Handler Training Certificate Program or another American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited Food Handler Training Certificate Program required within thirty (30) days of hire. Employee must maintain current certification during employment

This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
