Job Description

The Director of Investments will participate in the continual manager monitoring for existing search and due diligence efforts for potential managers as a generalist on the Investment Team. The Director-Investments will also lead key research projects including asset allocation, asset classes, and markets. The Director of Investments will present to the Investment Department, Consultant, and the Investment Committee. Additionally, the Director - Investments will lead and collaborate on: investment portfolio rebalancing, department annual reports, training analysts, and the summer internship program.

*This position is in office on the ALSAC / St. Jude Campus in Memphis, TN 5 days a week**

Essential Job Functions

1. Work collaboratively with the team in order to generate attractive long-term real returns while adhering to the risk profile of ALSAC.
2. Monitor and evaluate existing managers, including onsite meetings, analysis of returns, holdings, sectors, and strategies. Ensure that comprehensive files exist on all managers.
3. Develop and maintain asset class models and databases.
4. Lead writing of new and existing manager due diligence reports and Investment Department Annual Reports.
5. Coordinate with external consultants and Investment Department to originate, research, and due diligence new investment managers. Develop and maintain a list of prospective managers.

6. Implement and oversee the quantitative and qualitative analyses of investment opportunities, including financial modeling, industry and company analysis, manager benchmarking, returns analyses, and manager strategy analysis, and reference checking.
7. Work with Portfolio Managers, consultants, and CIO to develop and present investment themes and strategies that will add value to long-term real returns.
8. Assist in the preparation and presentation of materials for Investment Committee meetings.
9. Build and maintain network of peer investment offices globally.
10. Help recruit, train, retain, and mentor investment analysts.
11. Lead research and writing of Investment Department Annual Reports.
12. Monitor 3rd party data entry and management of cash flows and investment manager reporting.
13. Perform other job functions and projects as may be assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent analytical capabilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail, comfort working independently and as part of a small team, and strong work ethic
  • Knowledge of investment managers and asset classes
  • Bachelor’s degree and 7-10 years of experience within investments, capital allocation, security analysis, and/or finance industries
  • Demonstrated interest to work at asset allocator
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, strong knowledge of the rest of Microsoft Office, and strong knowledge of financial database

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a direct manager, investor researcher, and/or capital allocator
  • Specialized knowledge and experience in a sector (e.g., technology) and/or geography (e.g., China).
  • CFA, CAIA and/or MBA.
  • Familiarity with investment software, including: Bloomberg, Tamale, Zephyr, Private I, Caissa
