Description
Reporting to the Director of Financial Compliance, the ESG Reporting and Compliance Manager will be responsible for managing the development, day-to day implementation and ongoing evolution of FedEx’s global sustainability reporting strategy, which includes overseeing all the external reporting filing requirements relating to the SEC, European Union, California and other regulatory agencies and governments. This individual will work closely with global and cross-functional teams to ensure that FedEx’s governance, strategies, policies, processes, controls and disclosures meet emerging compliance requirements and align with voluntary and regulatory reporting standards. This person will build multi-year workplans, prepare necessary reports and filings, perform controllership reviews and coordinate external assurance activities by working closely with the Company’s external auditors and other accounting firms.
- Identify and continuously monitor global regulations, enterprise risk, ESG reporting standards and industry trends.
- Formalize governance over ESG data collection, validation, report preparation and final review, including executive and board level oversight.
- Manage external consultants and lead readiness assessments to help FedEx stay ahead of global reporting obligations (i.e. CSRD, SEC, CA).
- Partner with ESG, Operations, ERM, Finance, Internal Audit/SOX, Legal and other reporting functions to craft and operationalize SOX-like controls to ensure that qualitative and quantitative disclosures are consistent, complete, accurate and verifiable.
- Build internal control policies, process flows, technology solutions and any other supporting documentation needs.
- Develop and facilitate trainings for key data owners and reporting partners on compliance requirements, internal processes, systems & tools and any other related control procedures.
- Build limited and reasonable assurance plans, partner with external accounting firms and oversee audit activities.
- Identify risks, perform regular testing and review annual assurance findings to implement ongoing improvements to FedEx’s control process, governance & filings.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor’s degree/equivalent in business, accounting, finance, sustainability or a similar discipline
Advanced degree preferred
Minimum Experience
- 5+ years of relevant, proven experience at a consulting firm and/or a global publicly traded company.
- Professional background in accounting, financial reporting, SOX/internal controls, ESG disclosures or auditing & assurance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong command of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) along with financial & ESG compliance requirements (SEC, CA, CSRD).
- Familiarity with mandatory and voluntary reporting standards, (IFRS/ISSB/EFRAG, GRI, SASB), frameworks (COSO, CDP/TCFD) and third-party ratings (ISS, S&P, Sustainalytics, MSCI, Bloomberg).
- Financial or sustainability certifications (CPA, CFA, CSP, GRI, SASB)
- Strong analytical, written, communication and program management skills.
- Ability to navigate uncertainty, work in a fast-paced environment and complete deliverables within established deadlines.
