Provides expert leadership at the enterprise level related to vast quantities of data (including disparate data), enterprise analytics, statistical modeling, and initiatives and works on the leading edge of technology, tools, and methodology to ensure that FedEx is a leader in Business Intelligence.. Leads lower level Data Scientists in advanced in descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, prescriptive and ensemble modeling, advanced statistical techniques, use of database tools and/or other approaches in quantitative analysis of complex business situations. Creates and implements solutions from initial concept to fully tested production and communicates results to a broad range of audiences. Expert in the use of current and emerging technologies to evaluate trends and develop actionable insights and recommendations to managements, via understanding of the business model and the information available for analysis. Expert in the use of all data types, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and high- complexity predictive modeling and fact-based management to drive decision making. Mentors fewer senior staff. Leads cross functional projects and programs. Routinely works on multiple highly complex assignments concurrently.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree or equivalent in a quantitative discipline required. seven (7) Year work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, solutions implementation, operations analysis, marketing analysis, simulation development and/or predictive analytics. Demonstrated superior analytical skills with diverse analytics, data types and statistical software and applications. Outstanding interpersonal skills, written, and oral communication skill. Proven leadership skills.
Essential Functions
- Works autonomously in identification of strategic Data Science opportunities to plan, prioritize, develop and ultimately launch new initiatives leading to further advancement of world class data and analytics synergies
- Guides others in the collection of new data, refinement strategy. researches, tests, recommends, and implements improvements in the tools and techniques used by FedEx to manage and access data and information.
- Advises and mentors Sr. Data Scientists, Data Scientists, Analysts, and other analytical positions to help them understand different methodologies to solve business problems.
- Performs both qualitative analysis (e.g., content analysis, phenomenology, hypothesis testing) and quantitative analysis (e.g., clustering regression, pattern recognition, descriptive and inferential statistics) on large data sets to understand trends and relationships between variables to gain predictive insights.
- Designs and implements experiments to answer targeted questions, solve known issues and suggest/influence the direction of the business by effectively communicating with business partners and functional leaders to understand and prioritize key business challenges.
- Prioritizes problems so that the team works on the most valuable cases; leads investigations into multiple streams of data to solve complex business problems.
- Designs and implements reporting dashboards that track and visually communicate key business metrics and provide actionable insights.
- Obtains, interprets, streamlines and automates complex data to solve business problems to align with Quality Driven Management (QDM) standards; designs and reviews algorithms to provide analysis and insights into trends used for predictability.
- Identifies internal and external information sources, builds strong working relationships with subject matter experts and leadership within FedEx and the external marketplace.
- Builds strong relationships and leads partnerships with external Universities/external entities to develop synergies, shared work products, and ongoing collaboration within the Data Science and analytics fields
- Drives the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources; researches, tests, recommends, and implements improvements in the tools and techniques used by FedEx to manage and access data and information.
- Identifies internal and external information sources, builds effective working relationships with subject matter experts within FedEx and the external marketplace.
- Act as primary author of the whitepaper and will present various industry topics as it relates to Data Science at conferences.
- Collaborates with IT departments and communicates changes in industry trends and techniques to ensure the team is current with tools, knowledge and methods.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education
Master's degree in a quantitative discipline required.
Minimum Experience
Seven (7) to nine (9) years experience required in solving analytics problems through the application of data science techniques or work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, solutions implementation, operations analysis, marketing analysis, simulation development and/or predictive analytics.

Ability to design mathematical algorithms that employ predictive and machine learning models.

Must possess the ability to understand how new tools/methodology can be implemented to solve business problems.
Expert level with SQL (Structured Query Language).
Experience with Teradata and Oracle relational database platforms is desired.
Experience data modeling, ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) concepts, query performance tuning and testing is a plus.
Experience with large datasets, Map-Reduce architecture frameworks such as Pig and Scalding, statistical software such as R, and scripting languages like Python and Ruby is a plus.
Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau and Spotfire is a plus.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, reports, and related documents.
Ability to effectively present information to management, end users, co-workers, or vendors.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability.
Ability to apply concepts such as percentages, ratios, proportions and ranking to create practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Requires strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to perform complex tasks with limited direction.
Must have a strong innate aptitude and desire to learn new tools and methodology, and possess the ability to understand how they can be utilized to solve business problems.
Employs scientific methods and data-discovery tools to find new patterns, insights and relationships in big data.
Extracts meaningful information from multiple large data sets.
Develops solutions that quickly and visually communicate results
Acts as a subject matter expert in data structure and storage, and in mathematical model and algorithm development.
Vollaborates closely with IT departments.
Proficient with MS office applications
Performs other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications: Advanced knowledge of SQL, Python, Splunk, Microsoft Azure, GCP, Microsoft SQL Server, SSIS, SSMS, PowerBI
