Description
Under general supervision, plans, develops, implements and evaluates effective smaller communication efforts including strategy development, use of determined content, creative execution, research, writing, editing and validation.
This individual will be responsible for gathering information during high pressure situations, making a recommendation, writing media statements, and serving as a strategic advisor under a tight deadline. The ideal candidate is collaborative across their own team, must be flexible, maintain composure during high-pressure situations, and know how to prioritize. The ideal candidate will take initiative in identifying gaps in processes and working to correct them. Besides having a keen sense for issues management, they will pitch proactive news stories in local markets.
Key responsibilities for this role include:
- Collaborate with peers, leadership, and cross-functional teams to gather facts and stories for traditional media outlets
- Effectively communicate the FedEx story through traditional media
- Uphold a keen understanding of traditional media, competitors in the news, and industry trends
- Manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, maintain keen attention to detail while ensuring timely delivery without compromising quality
- Ability to quickly research an issue by working across multiple teams in order to gather the facts for a media statement
- Manage pitching proactive news stories to local media outlets
- Manage traditional media training with team members outside of Global Media & Public Affairs
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Advanced interpersonal skills
Skills/knowledge considered a plus:
- Traditional news or public relations agency experience
- Social media experience
- Extensive crisis communications experience
- Ability to plan and work on multiple projects and produce high quality results
- Logistics industry knowledge
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree/equivalent.
Minimum Experience
One (1) year directly related experience.
More advanced degrees may offset experience requirements. A related Master’s Degree equals two (2) years experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of institutional or corporate communications with an emphasis on communication planning/analysis and exposure to print and non-print media strategies.
Ability to understand high-level business strategy and develop practical, effective communication strategies.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, organization, creativity, grammar, writing and human relations/relation management skills.

Additional Details: This position will be hybrid in Memphis, TN; Pittsburgh, PA and Plano TX and candidates must live within a 50 mile radius. This position is hybrid, meaning that employees will be required to work at a FedEx Campus location several times per week.
