Director - Pro Se Parents' Clinic

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $32,000 per year

Work-Life Balance: This is a part-time role, primarily Monday through Thursday mornings in our Pro Se Parents' Clinic, located at 140 Adams Avenue. Occasional evening or variable hours to attend clinics, seminars, or staff meetings may be required.

About us: The Community Legal Center (CLC’s) mission is to provide civil legal services to those with limited means and those at risk, including populations not served by other legal aid agencies. This comes from our conviction that regardless of one’s circumstance in life, each person deserves the opportunity to seek justice. Only when other basic needs have been met do most people have sufficient income to pay for a private lawyer.

Position Summary: The Community Legal Center (“CLC”), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation located in Memphis, Tennessee, seeks a Director for its Pro Se Parents’ Clinic who demonstrates a passion for serving and advocating for vulnerable populations. This role works under the direction of the Executive Director to conduct daily pro se clinics for parents of minor children, administer brief legal advice, help clients complete forms and parenting plans, work collaboratively with community partners, and conduct educational workshops.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs client intakes
  • Gives brief legal advice, and helps clients complete divorce pleadings where appropriate
  • Maintains records of services performed and clients served in compliance with grant requirements
  • Presents educational seminars on legal topics
  • Promotes the CLC in the community
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Active member of the Tennessee Bar
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and advocacy skills
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a practicing attorney with concentration in family law
