CIVIL PARALEGAL

Job Type: Full-Time

Salary: $36,000 per year

ABOUT US:

The Community Legal Center (CLC’s) mission is to provide civil legal services to those with limited means and those at risk, including populations not served by other legal aid agencies. This comes from our conviction that regardless of one’s circumstance in life, each person deserves the opportunity to seek justice. Only when other basic needs have been met do most people have sufficient income to pay for a private lawyer.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The CLC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Memphis, Tennessee, is seeking a dedicated Paralegal with a strong commitment to serving and advocating for low-income individuals and other vulnerable populations. In this role, the Civil Paralegal will provide essential support to the Director of Civil Legal Services, and other program attorneys.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least two years of college
  • At least two years of legal office experience or equivalent paralegal education

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with the ability to effectively communicate, read, and write in both languages
  • Proficiency in both Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, confidently utilizing their tools for effective task management and collaboration
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled at working with diverse personalities, fostering strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Creativity and resourcefulness in problem-solving and task execution
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion
  • Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including evenings and Saturdays, approximately 1–3 times per month
  • A growth mindset, with openness to constructive feedback and a willingness to implement improvements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and manage new client files, ensuring accurate entry and maintenance of client information using Clio case management software
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring prompt and professional responses to calls and emails
  • Coordinate client scheduling for clinics and other appointments, ensuring seamless management of attorneys’ calendars and availability
  • Prepare routine client correspondence, ensuring accuracy and professionalism
  • Prepare legal documents, including petitions, motions, notices, and orders
  • Organize and prepare case files for court proceedings, ensuring all necessary documents are accurate, complete, and readily accessible for attorneys
  • File legal documents at the courthouse or electronically, as required
  • Ensure the proper closure of client files, including organizing and archiving paper files, and updating client information accurately in Clio case management software
  • Support attorneys by compiling and reporting monthly case and client statistics
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as directed, ensuring adaptability and a proactive approach to organizational needs
