Our Encore program includes a variety of Fine Arts classes and STEAM offerings. Encore expands and complements the core CMDS curriculum, immersing students in an elementary, liberal arts-style experience. Encore faculty members teach a rotation of classes each week, planning appropriate and standards-based lessons for each grade level. Encore teachers are expected to follow each grade level’s classroom curriculum and develop lessons that build on the topics covered. At CMDS, Spanish is a FLEX (Foreign Language for Exploration) program. Just as children learn their native language, our students are exposed to the Spanish language through the process of comprehensible input, including hearing and acting out stories, singing songs and playing games in Spanish. Students also engage in activities that allow them to explore the culture of Spanish-speaking countries and their people. The goal is for our students to leave CMDS with a well-rounded understanding of the Spanish language and culture. Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, Spanish, or a related field; prior teaching experience; the ability to work as a member of the CMDS Encore team; planning weekly Spanish lessons for 1st-6th grade students; helping students grow in their knowledge, fluency, and understanding of the Spanish language and culture. A CMDS faculty member has a genuine love of children’s education and is a representative of Christ Methodist Day School both on campus and in the community.
