Position Overview: Barnhart is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of FP&A & Treasury to help drive financial performance, business insights, and operational excellence across our growing organization.
This highly visible leadership role partners closely with executive, operational, and branch leadership to support financial decision-making, improve business performance, and advance key strategic initiatives. The Director of FP&A & Treasury will lead financial planning and analysis, treasury operations, business reporting, and analytics while developing a team of finance professionals and helping strengthen Barnhart's finance capabilities for the future.
Key Responsibilities
- Branch Financial Performance
- Own branch-level profitability analysis, identifying trends, outliers, and improvement opportunities across the branch network.
- Serve as a financial coach to branch and operational leaders, building their financial literacy and helping them act on the numbers.
- Compensation Programs
- Administer deferred compensation (DC) and stock appreciation rights (SAR) programs, including reporting, forecasting, and participant analysis.
- Support new compensation initiatives and provide analytical support to the Key Contributor Group (KCG) program.
- Lead compensation benchmarking projects and related market analysis.
- Reporting, Analytics & Business Intelligence
- Lead the modernization of financial reporting, converting legacy reporting systems into a modern BI platform.
- Design and build the monthly reporting package, executive dashboards, KPI reporting, etc. to improve visibility across the organization.
- Present financial and operational data in a clear, compelling, and highly visual format for leadership audiences.
- Work closely with the Operations Analytics team to align reporting and ensure minimal overlap/duplication.
- Financial Planning, Forecasting & Modeling
- Lead core FP&A activities with a focus on enhanced forecasting methodology and accuracy.
- Develop and maintain departmental forecasts and spending targets in partnership with department leaders.
- Build financial models to support strategic and operational decisions, such as evaluating new real estate and storage opportunities.
- Provide analytical support and recommendations to the Procurement leader, including spend visibility and sourcing analysis.
- Treasury
- Own day-to-day cash management and cash flow forecasting, including short- and long-term liquidity visibility.
- Manage banking relationships and support credit facility, borrowing base, and debt covenant reporting.
- Oversee working capital optimization and the management of excess cash and short-term investments.
- Coordinate letters of credit, surety bonding, and other credit support instruments as needed.
- Work closely with Risk Management and help lead risk financing decisions.
- Projects & Process Initiatives
- Lead cross-functional initiatives and projects around automation, AI implementation, etc.
- Identify and drive additional process improvement opportunities across the finance organization.
- Leadership
- Lead and develop a team of financial analysts, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with branch, operational, and departmental leadership across the organization.
- Operate as a player/coach, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on analytical work.
- Diligently learn the business via training classes, site visits, etc. Some travel may be necessary.
Qualifications
- Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 8+ years of progressive finance experience, with meaningful time spent inside a corporate finance or FP&A function at a well-run, multi-location or complex organization (experience limited to public accounting alone will not meet this bar).
- Strong foundation in accounting and financial statement analysis.
- Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Demonstrated experience building dashboards and reporting in a modern BI platform (e.g., Power BI).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear business insight.
- Preferred
- CPA preferred.
- MBA or other advanced business degree preferred.
- Experience in construction, industrial services, transportation, logistics, engineering, manufacturing, or other project-based environments.
- Prior experience leading a team and developing talent.
- Experience with compensation program administration or other highly confidential financial matters.
- Prior treasury experience, including cash management, banking relationships, or credit facility reporting.
