Job Summary: The Safety Lead is responsible for ensuring compliance with Valero site safety standards and driving a culture of safety excellence. This role oversees on-site safety audits, validates critical documentation, and leverages data insights to improve safety performance. The Safety Lead partners with site leadership and contractors to identify risks, implement corrective actions, and recognize top-performing teams. Acting as the primary safety resource on-site, this position plays a key role in maintaining operational integrity and protecting personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Site Safety Leadership
    • Serve as the primary safety point of contact for all operations at the Valero Memphis site.
  • Ensure compliance with Valero safety standards, OSHA regulations, and company policies.
  • Actively engage with crews during daily operations to reinforce safe work practices.
  • Data Collection & Analysis
    • Conduct regular audits of safety documentation in IFS, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), job tickets, and job observations.
  • Review maintenance and operational records for alignment with safety protocols.
  • Analyze safety trends and identify coaching opportunities through monthly data reviews
  • Process Validation
    • Lead and document monthly safety audits specific to the Valero site.
  • Validate completeness and accuracy of all safety-related documentation in IFS.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly and effectively.
  • Reporting & Communication
    • Prepare and present monthly safety performance reports, highlighting trends, improvement areas, and success stories.
  • Facilitate safety meetings with site leadership and contractors to review findings and recommendations.
  • Communicate proactively with branch and corporate safety teams to align on goals and compliance requirements.
  • Tools & Systems
    • Utilize IFS and Microsoft Excel for advanced data analysis (pivot tables, filtering, trend identification).
  • Develop customized dashboards and presentations to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial safety leadership, preferably in refinery or petrochemical environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, process safety management, and contractor safety programs.
  • Proven ability to audit safety programs and drive compliance in a field-based setting.
  • Advanced analytical skills with proficiency in IFS and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to influence across multiple levels.
  • Ability to work on-site at the Valero Memphis facility (no remote work).
  • Willingness to travel regionally up to 25% as needed.
  • Must pass pre-employment fit-for-duty and drug screening.
